Oosthuizen walks away from LIV

Louis Oosthuizen will return to the DP World Tour in 2027 after deciding against renewing his involvement with LIV Golf, citing the need to control his playing schedule and prolong his competitive career.
The South African, who won the Open Championship at St Andrews in 2010, announced his departure on Wednesday, 21 October.
“This is probably the hardest decision I’ve had to make in my career, but I have to do what I believe is right for my golf,” he said in a statement shared on social media.
Oosthuizen said he believed he still had several competitive years ahead, but was concerned that the proposed LIV schedule would make it difficult to prepare effectively.
His departure is particularly significant for South African supporters because of his captaincy of Southern Guards GC, LIV’s all-South African team.
He expressed his continuing attachment to his teammates and described bringing a LIV tournament to South Africa as a career highlight.
Oosthuizen joined the breakaway circuit in 2022. His exit follows that of Jon Rahm as LIV attempts to reshape its future.
For Oosthuizen, the immediate priority is to regain the freedom to structure his season around his remaining ambitions, including another challenge at the majors.
