Kane says Premier League itch has faded as Bayern future talks loom

Harry Kane has said the Premier League no longer holds the same pull it once did, insisting he is fully focused on Bayern Munich despite continued speculation linking him with a return to England.

His comments come as more British players embrace careers abroad. Gareth Bale spent the prime of his career at Real Madrid after leaving Tottenham, while Jude Bellingham moved from Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid rather than to a Premier League club.

Kane's stance is less a criticism of English football than an acknowledgement that success overseas can offer elite competition, a fresh footballing culture and a settled personal life. He said he would never rule out a return entirely, but for now his focus was on Bayern rather than Tottenham or a fresh Manchester United approach, with ESPN reporting that United remain long-term admirers of the striker.

The 33-year-old left Tottenham Hotspur for Bayern in 2023 and has since won two Bundesliga titles, along with the German Cup and the German Supercup.

Kane has been repeatedly tipped for a move back to England, where he remains 47 goals short of Alan Shearer's Premier League record of 260.

Speaking to FourFourTwo magazine after collecting his second European Golden Shoe on Wednesday, Kane said that when he first left Spurs, he had assumed he would definitely return to England at some point – but that the pull was no longer as strong. He described himself as extremely happy in Munich, adding that the move had opened his eyes to a different footballing world beyond England.

Kane's contract at Bayern expires next year. He said discussions over his future would begin soon, though he stressed there was no urgency on either side to reach a decision.

The striker capped the 2025–26 season with 36 Bundesliga goals, retaining the league's top-scorer title and claiming his second European Golden Shoe. He has now scored 146 goals in 147 appearances for Bayern in all competitions, including 98 in 94 Bundesliga matches.

Bayern open their Bundesliga campaign against VfB Stuttgart on 28 August.
