Fortuin wants Proteas to carry momentum into Tri-Series finale

Proteas captain Bjorn Fortuin wants his side to carry belief into the “business end” of the T20I Tri-Series, with a strong showing against Namibia on Friday set to complete the group stage.

Zaahier Adams writes for IOL that after an opening defeat to hosts Namibia, the Proteas have since beaten Zimbabwe twice, all but securing their spot in Sunday's final.

Their most recent win, by 43 runs, was comprehensive, though Fortuin flagged sloppy fielding.

He said dropped catches gifted Zimbabwe runs late in the innings, along with a loose finish with the ball and a batting effort that fell short of the team's own standards.

There was still much to like: Lhuan-dre Pretorius (94) and Dewald Brevis (41) laid the platform with the bat, while the bowlers dominated the first half of the chase. Fortuin himself starred with career-best T20I figures of 4/24, backed by rookie seamer Duan Jansen's 3/21.

Fortuin said the team was pleased to see different bowlers stepping up, adding that individual performances are secondary to results – though contributing personally, as he did, was satisfying. He said building confidence with a good performance against Namibia would set the Proteas up well ahead of the business end of the series.
