Satrix draws R13bn as Sanlam sharpens investment focus

Satrix attracted R13 billion in retail inflows during the first half of 2026, according to Sanlam Investments CEO Carl Roothman, underscoring the index-tracking business’s importance to the group’s investment strategy.
Kabelo Khumalo reports in Business Day that Roothman presented the figures at Sanlam’s capital markets day last week.
Roothman said Satrix had generated R108 billion in net client flows over six years.
Its assets under management exceeded R330 billion at the end of June, according to Satrix figures published on Fundhub.
The business offers exchange-traded funds, index-tracking unit trusts and portfolios tailored to institutional and retail clients.
Its growth forms part of Sanlam Investments’ renewed emphasis on indexation, private wealth and alternative investments following the transfer of its active asset management businesses to Ninety One.
Business Day previously reported that the transaction involved about R400 billion in assets, with Sanlam taking a 12.5% stake in Ninety One.
Roothman’s latest figures indicate that Satrix remains an important source of new business as the group develops that strategy.
The reported inflow figures are company disclosures. A separate claim that Satrix holds a 38% market share does not clearly identify the market being measured and should not be interpreted as its share of the entire South African retail investment industry.
