Intercape flags ongoing intimidation as taxi court battle drags on

The chief executive officer for Intercape has described what he says is a continuing campaign of intimidation and violence against the long-distance bus operator, allegedly involving interests within the taxi industry.

The dispute has resulted in repeated litigation, with Intercape securing a series of High Court orders requiring authorities to take measures to protect its staff and passengers.

The latest proceedings concern Intercape’s right to load and offload passengers at the Ngcobo police station in the Eastern Cape when safety concerns prevent it from using its normal stopping point, Johann Ferreira told EWN.

Court records have previously documented evidence of sustained violence and intimidation involving certain taxi organisations, including attacks on Intercape buses and disputes over the company's operations.

Ferreira has said Intercape will continue pursuing legal action until government authorities fulfil their obligations to protect the company, its employees and passengers.
