Two prominent South African figures are facing legal trouble, with Tsakane Matlala arrested on suspicion of fraud and ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula set to be prosecuted for alleged crimen injuria.
Matlala, the wife of alleged underworld figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, was arrested on Tuesday by members of the Gauteng Political Killings Task Team.
She is accused of falsifying bank statements to help secure a Waterkloof lease at a monthly rental of R95,000.
Her arrest follows the detention of a close associate of Matlala, who is also accused of falsifying documents linked to the lease agreement.
Meanwhile, the National Prosecuting Authority has granted AfriForum’s request to prosecute Mbalula for crimen injuria.
The charge relates to an alleged accusation that former Bergview College principal Jaco Pieterse was a child rapist.
AfriForum said Mbalula would face prosecution alongside EFF leader Julius Malema, who faces a related case stemming from the same alleged accusation.
Both men remain presumed innocent, and the allegations will be tested in court.
