A burst tyre on a Kenya Airways aircraft temporarily closed the main runway at Cape Town International Airport on Tuesday afternoon, disrupting flight operations before normal services resumed.
According to Reuters, the aircraft became disabled on the main runway after landing, forcing Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) to close the runway for several hours while the aircraft was removed.
All passengers disembarked safely and no injuries were reported.
The runway closure resulted in inbound flights being diverted to other airports, while some international departures were placed on hold.
Acsa later confirmed that the main runway had reopened and flight operations had resumed, although some delays were expected as the airport returned to normal operations.
Kenya Airways said its engineering and technical teams were working to repair the aircraft.
Cape Town International is South Africa's second-busiest airport and serves as a major gateway for international and domestic travellers.
