‘Widow’s Bay’ makes Emmy history with record 14 wins

Apple TV+'s horror-comedy Widow's Bay made Emmy history by winning a record 14 awards at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.

The series won Outstanding Comedy Series, while Matthew Rhys took the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series award.

The 14 victories surpassed the previous record for the most Emmy wins by a comedy series in a single year, following several Creative Arts Emmy successes the previous weekend.

Rhys also became the first Welsh actor to win the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series category.

The ceremony, held at the Peacock Theater and hosted by Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay, saw HBO Max's medical drama The Pitt retain the Outstanding Drama Series award. HBO Max's DTF St. Louis won Outstanding Limited Series, while Netflix's Remarkably Bright Creatures took the television movie award.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was named Outstanding Variety Series.

Jean Smart added to her Emmy tally with another award for Hacks, while Noah Wyle won the lead actor award for The Pitt.

The Creative Arts Emmys had already highlighted the strength of Widow's Bay, alongside Traitors and performers including Octavia Spencer, who won for narrating The Lost Women of Alaska.

Vince Gilligan won for writing on Pluribus, while Hiro Murai received the directing award for Widow's Bay.
