State Theatre records fourth clean audit

The South African State Theatre has received a clean audit for 2025/26, extending its run to four consecutive clean opinions from the Auditor-General of South Africa.

The Pretoria-based institution has now recorded clean audits for each financial year since 2022/23.

The Theatre said the latest result reflected its emphasis on financial controls, governance, compliance and accountability while continuing its artistic and cultural work.

Chief executive Shane Maja said the result demonstrated that artistic ambitions needed to be supported by sound financial and operational management. He also credited the finance, artistic, business operations, compliance, risk and human-resources teams.

Chief financial officer Santa Viljoen said maintaining four consecutive clean audits reflected consistent systems and collective responsibility across the organisation.

Artistic director Aubrey Sekhabi also welcomed the result, describing it as a positive indication of the institution's management.

Maja said the achievement would bring added responsibility to maintain and improve internal systems as the Theatre works towards its ambition of becoming a technologically advanced “smart theatre”.

The State Theatre said the focus would remain on providing a sustainable platform for artists, audiences, event organisers and other participants in the creative industries.
