South African singer-songwriter Msaki will headline the third edition of the Absa L’Atelier Art and Lifestyle Fair, joining rhythm and blues artist Elaine and the Soweto Gospel Choir in a celebration of music, visual art and creative expression.

The event, taking place in the Waterfall City precinct in Midrand, forms part of celebrations marking 40 years of the Absa L’Atelier Art Awards, an initiative supporting emerging visual artists.

Mbali Mbatha reports for Time Out that the fair has expanded considerably since its launch in 2024 at the Kromdraai Impact Hub near Krugersdorp.

The second edition was hosted at the Nirox Sculpture Park, while this year’s programme moved into a larger urban setting near the Mall of Africa.

Msaki, whose work crosses musical and visual-art disciplines, is among the principal attractions.

Her involvement reflects the event’s emphasis on combining different creative forms rather than presenting visual art and live performance as separate experiences.

The inclusion of the Soweto Gospel Choir and Elaine also brings together established and contemporary South African musical talent.

The fair forms part of a wider programme of cultural activities taking place in Johannesburg and Cape Town during October, including theatre productions, exhibitions, ballet and film festivals.

Beyond entertainment, the event provides a platform for artists and creative businesses to engage with audiences and potential patrons.
