Three-time Grammy Award-winning South African flautist Wouter Kellerman will join the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra for an evening of music at the Norval Foundation on Friday, 30 October.

The concert forms part of the second Cape Town installment of Classics on Turf, an event combining sport, art and orchestral music. A golf day at Steenberg Golf Club will precede the evening performance at the Norval Foundation in Tokai.

Palesa Manaleng reports for EWN that Kellerman would perform with the orchestra under conductor Kutlwano Masote.

Although the two have known each other for about 15 years, the concert will be their first performance together on stage.

The programme is expected to move between musical traditions, including classical works by Rossini and Chopin, South African favourites and new age music.

Kellerman told EWN that his curiosity had drawn him towards a variety of genres and that he believed music could connect people from different backgrounds.

The flautist, composer and producer has performed at venues and events including Carnegie Hall and the opening ceremony of the 2010 Fifa World Cup. He has also received the Order of Ikhamanga in Gold for his contribution to music.

Tickets start at R500 and are available through Webtickets.
