Johannesburg Musical Society to stage two rarely heard piano quintets

The Johannesburg Musical Society (JMS) will present two piano quintets seldom heard in the city at the Linder Auditorium on Sunday, 11 October, at 3pm.
Canadian pianist Jean-Philippe Sylvestre will join the Odeion String Quartet to perform César Franck’s Piano Quintet in F minor and Antonín Dvořák’s Piano Quintet in A major.
Sylvestre is a three-time winner of the Canadian Music Competition and has built a busy career in Europe.
Conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin has described him as ‘a poet of the piano’. The Odeion String Quartet has won several awards and regularly appears at South Africa’s major arts festivals.
The Dvořák quintet was last performed on the JMS platform in 2005, while the Franck has not been heard in Johannesburg for many decades.
Tickets can be booked through Quicket, while the Linder box office opens for sales at 2pm on the day of the concert.
