Brandon Flowers previews upcoming solo album with new single

The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers has released a new single, "Tiger's Blood," ahead of his forthcoming solo album Thrasher, due out on 21 August via Island Records.

Flowers debuted the Springsteen-influenced track last week during his set at Newport Folk Fest, Rolling Stone's Emily Zemler reports.

Like the rest of Thrasher, the song was recorded in Nashville with his longtime producers Shawn Everett and Jonathan Rado. The song is a nostalgic, reflective piece looking back on an old relationship and the passage of time.

The album features contributions from a number of notable Nashville musicians, including Gillian Welch collaborator David Rawlings, pedal steel guitarist Bruce Bouton, and harmonica player Charlie McCoy, who previously played on Bob Dylan's Nashville-era records.

Flowers has already released two other tracks from the album, "Paradise" and "Plans," along with a live version of the latter filmed at RCA Studio A. He will tour in support of Thrasher this autumn, with the trek opening in Phoenix on 1 September and closing in Las Vegas on 6 October.

In an album trailer filmed in the desert, Flowers said he had discovered a creative space he felt had been waiting for him all along in country-western music, describing it as offering itself to him with an easy enthusiasm that suited the stories he currently wanted to tell.

He was clear, however, that the shift wasn't a departure from rock and roll, saying he had no intention of replacing his older material and had simply found room to do more.

Flowers has also recently spoken candidly about considering stepping away from music altogether. In an interview with the Times, he said he was genuinely grappling with how much longer he wanted to keep going and what it all meant, admitting that he reliably falls ill at the end of every tour.

He said he sometimes thought of Mick Jagger and asked himself what kept him returning to the stage, concluding that it must be the powerful moments a live show can offer – something he said he couldn't imagine giving up.
